A romance that will ghost away your stress AND the AmAzInG book deal I scored and how you can too

I've been thinking hard lately.  Like the kind of thinking hard where you are scrunching your eyebrows and don't even know it.  Nothing serious.  Sometimes it's just the mundane aspects of life that are on my mind.  Sometimes, it just takes a lot of energy to plan the day, get everyone what they need, squeak in a bit of physical activity, try to have a semi clean home, etc.  That's the kind of thinking that has worn on my lately.  Maybe it's more trying to cram too much into a day. Maybe it's cabin fever from the winter weather. I bet many of you can relate to this feeling. A bit of a brain break was in order and Ashley Poston certainly fulfilled with The Dead Romantics .  I'm a rom-com fan but never really thought of myself as a romance fan.  I always thought of romance novels as steamy, make me blush, kind of books.  The Dead Romantics  is totally a romance but not in that steamy sort of way - rather like a cozy hug at the perfect moment.  It&#

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo: A Novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid

This book tells the life story of Evelyn Hugo, a fictional movie star in the 1950s and 60s.  Evelyn handpicks a little-known journalist, Monique,  to write her biography, but Evelyn describes how she is someone who always has a motive for her actions.  What is the motive in selecting Monique?  I was guessing until the last few pages and was truly surprised.  The first few chapters got me thinking about fame.  Would it be worth it?  Would fame be worth cashing in who you are, your self worth, your history, your given name, your ability to decipher friend from foe?  In essence, losing what makes you, you?  Throughout the book, Evelyn shares with Monique the tale of her seven husbands and a secret romance.  It's frightening to think how there was a point in time, not that long ago, that acceptance wasn't guaranteed and love that others didn't accept could cost someone so much.  I loved how, at the end of telling her tale to Monique, Evelyn shared her heart, what truly has mattered to her when she lived a life of fame and fortune, a life that others pined for.  Also interesting how Jenkins-Reid addresses making sense of one's life journey and end of life decisions.  Truly a great read with many surprises.    Jenkins-Reid's had a fluid writing style, great titles for the husbands, and creative style of fictional news/tabloid articles strewn throughout the book to show how the world viewed Evelyn.

This book hadn't been checked out from the local library in nearly 3 years - I think it's due a little love...
